Board meetings are held in the SVL Lobby Conference Room 017 on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM. General meetings are held in the SVL Cafeteria Room K222 on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM.   All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Hal Turk, HTML instructor for Museum Docents and a Club member, will give a presentation on more of the fundamentals of HTML, which is a formatting markup language for Web authoring. The presentation will consist of explaining and demonstrating the use of tables and links. A simple table consisting of rows and columns will be explained and demonstrated. Also, the three parts of a link which are the destination, a label and a target will be explained and demonstrated. For those who attended Hal's previous 2001 presentation and tried to construct HTML pages, time will be devoted to answering their questions. Good start for the New Year, come participate!

Bob Murray, Sales Manager of OEM and Major Accounts at Gyration, Inc.,, will describe and demonstrate the family of Gyration products which include wireless mice, keyboards and presentation controllers. The company has developed GyroPoint Technology (tm), a unique method by which an inertial sensor detects natural hand motions to move a cursor or graphic on a remote display. This method is combined with Gyration's sophisticated yet low-cost wireless network for peripherals for seamless and unrestricted communication to a PC or other information appliances. Mike Langberg, Mercury News Personal Technology Editor, will give an informative presentation about what is new in digital cameras and offer tips on getting the most from digital images. Mike has been testing digital cameras for several years and has evaluated many different digital cameras. Mike will discuss his experiences with various digital cameras from some of the companies that offer very high resolution digital cameras, such as Canon, Casio, Fuji, JVC, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Ricoh, Sony and Toshiba. Robert Knight, Vice President & John Enea, Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch's San Jose Office will be giving a presentation on Merrill Lynch Online software and investment techniques. Robert Knight has given many presentations on investing to IBM groups in the San Jose area. Some of the Merrill Lynch Online functions that will be discussed and demonstrated using an internet connection include trading, transferring funds, setting up a watch list, tracking gains and losses, charting securities and reading research reports. Keith Borman, President/CEO of Qarbon.com, will give a presentation on ViewletBuilder software. ViewletBuilder creates compelling animated tutorials and presentations. These files are very lightweight, fun to watch, and easy to make. ViewletBuilder, Qarbon's authoring tool, creates animated software demonstrations. Cursors move, menus open, and selections are made while audio voiceovers, text balloons and notes explain the actions. Daniel Russell, Senior Manager of  the USER Lab at the IBM Almaden Research Center, will give a presentation on current research, interesting results, and new directions in human/computer interfaces.  USER (User Sciences & Experience Research) is an experimental group dedicated to understanding physical, cognitive, graphical, and interpersonal needs of users.  This work is characterized by human factors and engineering experiments with innovative hardware and software all focused on creating a behavioral motor match to aid a user.  For more information go to their Web site.

Fred Waggoner, Advisory Engineer, IBM Western Region Well Being team, will present the fundamentals of office ergonomics - the study of the interaction between the worker and their work environments -  and how it applies to your home PC environment.  Instruction in the basics of good ergonomics will be provided which will empower you to set up your workstation and adapt your home office to optimize your personal comfort and productivity. Sherman Zell, President of Zell Associates, will give a presentation on Microsoft Picture It software which is an easy-to-use photo editor with a variety of editing tools.
