Kaitlin Duck Sherwood, Author of the Overcome Email Overload series, will give a presentation on useful strategies that most people don't know about for getting through e-mail faster.  She has written two books on how to overcome email overload -- one based on Eudora 5 and one based on Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2002.  Also, she has performed extensive literature reviews of issues related to electronic mail including demographics, usage growth, and internationalization.  For more information, go to http://www.OvercomeEmailOverload.com .

Mike Langberg, Mercury News Personal Technology Editor, will give a presentation on home electronic devices for entertainment and networking.  Mike will discuss the future of electronic home entertainment and cover devices such as video recorders and MP3 players.  Also, he will discuss what is new in home computer networking and offer tips on setting up your own 
home computer network.  The computer industry has been striving for years to develop inexpensive, easy-to-install equipment for linking home PCs.  Mike has been investigating various home networking techniques for several years, and he has evaluated many different approaches such as using USB adapters, wireless adapters, Ethernet cables, home electrical wiring, and phone lines.

Don Ferguson, an IBM Retiree and SeniorNet instructor, will give a presentation on how to use eBay to buy items.  eBay is the world's largest online auction community of buyers and sellers, and it is place to buy what you want, sell what you have as well as having fun bidding.  The main areas to be covered include the basics of registration, finding items,  and bidding.  Also, Don will cover his strategy for bidding and tips on getting the most out of eBay.  Don gave an eBay class at the Willows Senior Center using a very effective PC slide show, and he is an experienced user of eBay.  For more information go to http://www.ebay.com

William Lam, CEO of Ask Dr. Tech, will try to help Club members solve their existing PC problems, share troubleshooting tips, and introduce Ask Dr. Tech services.  Jim Pojda, VP of Business Operations, will also be present.  William Lam has a monthly program on CNET Radio in which he answers listeners' questions on their computer problems as well as offers advice on keeping their computers running in top shape. Ann Montgomery Jones, Mid-Peninsula IBM PC Club member, will describe and demonstrate the functions of Lotus Approach which is powerful, versatile, and easy to use. relational database program.  Features that may be covered include the user interface, Dialog Editor, queries, Action Bar, InfoBox, SmartMaster applications, PowerClick Reportwriter, chart generation, Internet capabilities, connectivity, customization, automated LotusScript, and Approach macro generation. J. B. Burke, President of the Mid-Peninsula IBM PC Club, will give a presentation on how to build your own PC.  Using many photos taken during the process, he will provide information on all the components used in building a system unit.  Some of the topics that may be covered include the basic vocabulary and functionality of PC parts, selecting and shopping for parts, common mistakes people make when assembling PC's, the step-by-step process to assemble the desired hardware components, configuring BIOS settings, initializing a new hard disk using appropriate software, installing an operating system, testing, and troubleshooting.

Ron Springer, Willows SeniorNet Learning Center Education Coordinator, will give a presentation on CD Recordable's & Backing Up Your Files.  CD-R is short for "CD-Recordable".  Recordable CDs are WORM (Write Once, Read Multiple) media  and can be read by a standard CD ROM drive.  Since CD-R blanks can hold 80 minutes of audio, or about 700 MB of data, they are suitable for backing up your files.  Ron will explain why backups are needed, why time and space considerations have a significant impact, what are the media tradeoffs, and why CD ROM's provide an effective method of backing up your system.

Alan Baker, San Jose IBM PC Club Technical Support Chairman, will give a presentation on setting up a wireless home network  The term wireless networking refers to technology that enables two or more computers to communicate using standard network protocols, but without network cabling. Some of the topics that may be covered include the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard, considerations in using equipment from different vendors, connecting to both wireless and wired LAN's, transmitting range of a wireless network, number of computers that can use a single access point, multiple access points, roaming using multiple access points,  interconnecting two LANs,  security authentication,  and sharing an Internet connection.
