Scott Maiden, Club member, will give a presentation on Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 which is the latest version.  If you own an older version of Photoshop Elements, you might be wondering whether to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 4.0.  Well, you can get the answer to this question in this January meeting. Scott Maiden who told us all about the Photoshop Elements 3.0 upgrade in March of 2005 returns to show us what features have been added and what features have been taken out (yes, some feature were removed). Walt Cole, Club President and SeniorNet Almaden instructor, will give a presentation on Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006, a digital photo editing, organizing, and sharing package.  It has capabilities similar to those in Adobe PhotoShop Elements, but it is easier to learn and use. The Suite contains a Library program for organizing your digital image files, an Editor program that has simple tools for fixing and modifying images, as well as advanced tools for doing just about any kind of image editing you want to do. Larry Dick, InventThings representative, will give a presentation on Katchall Archive which is a set of programs and utilities to create and manage the files that you work with. Every time a change is made to any file on your computer the differences between the new and old versions of the file are saved and compressed. The entire history of a file's changes is available through a very simple user interface.  With this package, Enterprise type archival technology is scaled to the small business network and standalone computer.  A modern computer has huge amounts of storage available to it. Walt Cole, Club President and SeniorNet Almaden instructor, will give a presentation on Open Office which is an open, feature-rich multi-platform office productivity suite. The user interface and the functionality is very similar to other products in the market like Microsoft Office or Lotus SmartSuite, but compared to these commercial products, OpenOffice is absolutely free.  The topics to be covered include Writer and Impress.  Writer is a full-featured word processor, and the powerful Navigator and Stylist tools make changing the formatting throughout a document a simple task.  Impress is a full-featured presentation tool that allows one to create and modify diagrams and pictures right within the application. Dick Stuart, SJPC Newsletter editor, will give a presentation on Picasa 2.5 which is free software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC.  Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize.
