We made 5 round trips from
Long
Thanh
North to Bangkok
carrying troops and equipment. The
runway
at Long Thanh North was
about half the length and half the width of
Bien Hoa's, so it required
a bit more concentration.
On one flight in there I was quite high on
final approach. The tower controller noticed just how high we
were and inquired, "Understand you are going around?" Stacey the
copilot replied, "Uh, stand by..." but I made the landing
OK. Airplane humor.
We had a hot brake on another landing there. As a
precaution we had the tower call out a fire engine. The
tower controllers got pretty excited--maybe they'd never called out a
fire engine before.
