Tour of GeoCities “PageBuilder”
Features
It is my suggestion that this text be printed out so that viewing
the site can be done more smoothly without having to switch back
and forth between this and my web site.

To become familiar with the PAGE BUILDER application
I used as many of its features as I could in building my web pages.
Many of the features have no explanations in the HELP area so
I just experimented until I learned their function.
I thought it may be helpful for the class to see actual examples
of these features. So I would like to take you on a tour of one
of my web sites so I can point out where I used these features
and you can see the results firsthand (i.e. a picture is worth
a thousand words). So just follow the steps below:

NOTE: Depending on your web connection DSL, 56K modem, etc.
it may take 5 to 50 seconds to load so please be patient.
FEATURES ON THE HOME PAGE
- FLYBY FEATURE - A red car crosses the screen from left to
right.
- ANIMATED GIF - A monarch butterfly flaps its wings.
- TEXT TAIL feature - A bright pink colored text phrase "Hi,
Glad you are here! follows your cursor wherever it is moved.
- MOUSE OVER feature - Hover your cursor over the top banner.
It may take 3 to 30 seconds and it will change to a color negative
image.
- BACKGROUND feature - I used the color black.
- COUNTER feature – The counter will increment each time
the Home Page is opened.
- GUEST BOOK feature - we will come to this later.
- E-Mail feature – I did not include this feature on my
web site. If I did, Clicking on it would open your e-mail application
so you would be able to e-mail me without having to navigate
to it to do so.
- BACKGROUND MUSIC feature- Each Page can have a background
music file attached with a song to fit the theme of the page
The HOME PAGE = King of the Road. Not all pages have music files
attached, but examples could be: GRAND CIRCLE PAGE = I'm a Traveling
Man, 2002 BALLOON FIESTA = Up Up and Away In My Beautiful Balloon,
WISCONSIN AUTUMN PAGE = Autumn Leaves, and the LAKE TAHOE PAGE
= Winter Wonderland.
- TEXT LINKS feature - On the left side of the open window
notice "Links to Albums" and HOME page.
- SCREEN TIPS feature- Hover your cursor over the barn photo
and the words "CLICK HERE to go to the Grand Circle Album"
appear.
- PICTURE LINK feature - Now, Click on the barn picture.
GRAND CIRCLE ALBUM PAGE features:
- SCREEN TIP feature - Here the tip informs you that you can
enlarge the picture if you click on it
- CLICK ON THE BARN PICTURE. In this case the link opens a
larger image that I previously uploaded to my geocities file
manager directory.
CAUTION: Click the "BACK BUTTON" on your browser to
go back to the previous screen. DO NOT CLICK THE X IN THE UPPER
RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE WINDOW. DOING SO WILL EXIT THE WEBSITE.
- PAGE TRANSITIONS feature - Unfortunately this feature no
longer works on the FREE sites. If it did you would notice a
transition effect between changing pages and clicking to enlarge
images. I had chose the RANDOM setting so the transition effect
would vary each time a link to a new page or picture was clicked.
It was a great feature that is now availble on the paid sites.
2002 BALLOON FIESTA PAGE features:
- CLICK THE "2002 BALLOON FIESTA" link. (Again it
may take 5 to 50 seconds to load.)
- BOUNCING PHOTOS feature - Notice the Duck and Humpty Dumpty
Balloon Photos freefall and bounce around the screen.
WISCONSIN AUTUMN PAGE features:
(May need to wait 5 - 50 seconds.)
- CLICK ON THE "WISCONSIN AUTUMN" album link on the
left side of the window
- SCURRY feature - Notice Autumn Leaves as they scurry about
the screen.
LAKE TAHOE PAGE features:
- CLICK ON THE "LAKE TAHOE" album link. (Wait 5 -
50 seconds.)
- ANIMATED GIF - Notice dancing snowman.
- CLICK THE "EMERALD BAY SUNDOWN" PICTURE.
- CLICK THE BACK BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER TO RETURN TO THE LAKE
TAHOE ALBUM.
- CLICK THE "HOME" text link to go the "HOME
PAGE."
- CLICK "SIGN MY GUESTBOOK” LINK" and fill in
items as appropriate.
- CLICK THE "BACK BUTTON" on your browser to go back
to the “HOME” page of the Website.
- CLICK “READ MY GUESTBOOK” LINK and look at the
comments you shared along with those of others. When through
scroll to the bottom of the page and
- CLICK THE “RETURN TO WEB SITE” LINK.
- CLICK X IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF THE WINDOW TO EXIT THE
WEBSITE.
